Velvet Hammer, the latest name in luxury, handmade headwear, is thrilled to announce its official launch. Conceived by designer Sarah Vick, Velvet Hammer offers a couture-style collection that is as bold as it is feminine, drawing inspiration from the iconic fashion trends, materials, and techniques of the 60s and 70s.

Each eye-catching piece in the Velvet Hammer collection is handcrafted in Sydney, Australia, ensuring that no two items are exactly alike. With a focus on uniqueness and exclusivity, many pieces are made to order or limited edition, featuring rare, vintage materials that infuse every creation with a unique charm.

“Velvet Hammer is about creating pieces that are not only beautiful but also meaningful,” says founder and lead designer Sarah Vick. “Each item is a nod to the past, while being completely in tune with the modern woman’s needs. These are pieces that stand out and make an impact, but still feel feminine and wearable.”

 

A MODERN JACKIE O MOMENT

When celebrity stylist Marina Didovich envisioned a contemporary Jackie O moment for style icon Rosalia Russian at the 2024 Derby Day, Velvet Hammer was commissioned to create a couture quality headpiece to complement Steven Khalil's suit, creating one of the most talked-about ensembles at Melbourne's prestigious Spring Racing Carnival.

VISION & CREATION

Our challenge was to reimagine the iconic 1960s pillbox hat for the modern era. Working closely with Khalil's atelier, we crafted a bespoke headpiece using the same luxurious fabric as the suit, adorning it with over 100 hand-beaded flowers and pearls. Each element was meticulously placed to echo the garment's floral embellishments, creating a harmonious connection between hat and suit for a seamless, show-stopping ensemble.
